PASSINGS

Designer Alexander McQueen, who this blog dearly loved and thought was a fashion genius, ended his own life.

A UK paper reports:


"The 40-year-old committed suicide just days after the death of his mother, Joyce. His death also comes just three years after his close friend, Isabella Blow - who plucked him from obscurity and helped him become a star - killed herself. McQueen was found at his luxury flat in Green Park, central London. It is believed he hanged himself. A source at McQueen’s office this afternoon confirmed his death, saying: ‘It is a tragic loss. We are not making a comment at this time out of respect for the McQueen family.’ His death comes just days before the start of London Fashion Week and weeks before he was due to unveil his new collection at Paris Fashion Week on March 9...


Of course all of our prayers and thoughts go out to his friends, family and husband, George Forsyth.  The two were married for 10 years.

So sad.  Fashion has lost a creative, original and individualistic mind.

"metallic washes and treatments"-- read  lighter wash in denim not a heavy blue.  Possibly gun metal in color

INVISIBLE INK

There are fans (and a site, J Crew Aficionada) that track everything J Crew, who would have thunk?!! And, they notice every little discrepancy the company commits.

The questionable photoshopping isn't just happening at Ralph Lauren or Louis Vuitton but at this all American retailer.

The model, below, he was one way for the catalog and another way for a recent email burst.

Is the red, white and blue clothing company suggesting that he is too individualistic?  Do they want all their customers homogenized and spineless?

Lorenzo Martone is in collaboration with Bijules jewelry designer Jules Kim to produce a debut swimwear line.

The line is scheduled to be shown next spring.

Martone has a PR company so no word on whether he is marketing or actually contributing to the design process.

RYAN MCGINLEY: SUNDAY EDITION

We posted about this earlier that lenser Ryan McGinley asked Rodarte to design some outfits for American Olympians so he could click them.

Well the fruits of his labor are about to arrive Sunday.

The New York Times Magazine will feature McGinley's images.

Quips the Rodarte design team, sisters Kate and Laura Mulleavy:     We built the looks knowing that the athletes needed to be able to keep the same range of motion in our clothing as they have in their normal uniform." 

We can't wait to see the collab!!
