THE STANDARD: FUN FASHIONS

This is the Downtown LA pair by Quicksilver, above.

Andre Balazs' The Standard Hotel empire and Quicksilver, maker of boardshorts, have collaborated to produce a vending machine that sells the swimwear line. Machines will be placed at 4 of The Standard spots.

The initial machine will be at the downtown LA location , with the Hollywood, Miami and New York locations to follow.

We hear the trunks are going to be 70's inspired with The Standard Hotel locations in mind. There will be a city guide to each destination printed in the waistband.

The vending machine will debut August 8th at the Downtown LA Standard.

NORDIES TO NEW YORK

This blog was one of the first to post that Nordstrom was making its way to New York City.

Sure enough-- I was right.... April 9th to be exact!!  I love it when I am right.

Nordstroms plans to open a Nordstrom Rack in Union Square, housed where the now vacant defunct Virgin Megastore sits.

$500 MILLION IN CUTS BUT ADD A DESIGNER TO THE BLEND

Back in March, Starbucks was crying about financial woes to the tune of $500 million in budget chainsawing.

NOW!!!

The company releases news that a collaboration between the coffee emporium and designer Christian Siriano is in the works for Holiday 2009.

The coffee klatch is keeping mum on the details until the middle of November then all hell will break loose with the PR onslaught.

A BUYER FOR CHRISTIAN LACROIX?

Social swirl Gayfryd Steinberg heavily wore the Lacroix label back in the day.

This blog noted earlier that designer Christian Lacroix, a favorite fashion fixture of the  NYC's nouvelle society circa 1987, was headed for bankruptcy.

NOW!!!

It is reported that Bernard Krief Consultants may be interested in bidding for the gasping French fashion house.  The Krief group is using the recession to buy fire sale companies and acquire some tangible businesses to its portfolio, like French fashion chain Morgan and textile company DMC.

No dollar amount has been available for the offer of Lacroix and the fashion house is not responding to inquiries.
