PLEASE DON'T FEED OR HIRE THE MODELS

Jim Nelson is taking a page right out of AnnER's playbook and making GQ very celebrity driven.

Instead of hiring Kerry, Baptiste, or Chad, Nelson & Co. decided to employ actors to showcase designer wares in the March issue.

Readers may recognize Sam Page, Joel McHale, or Chevy Chase.

Hmmmm.

Somewhere out there Noah's (Mill) and Garrett's (Neff) pocketbooks and bank accounts are crying......

TREND WATCH

For S/S 2011, The Men's Store is obsessed with the flare at the bottom of the trouser that Salvatore Ferragamo is offering.

We want all  of our pants for this season with this cut--ALL!!

So refreshing for Spring.

We offer the second image to show how the fabric moves down the runway.

Call us, obsessed-- for this pant!!

GO GO-ING LOO LOO FOR SPRING

One of our perennial favorites Mark Vanderloo for Boss S/S 2011.

We were so mad for him during (well really, before-during-and after)  his reign with the DKNY campaigns of the 90s.

He was a part of that whole male supermodel pack with  Jason Lewis and  Alex Lundqvist.  Mmmmmm mmmmph.

What a wonderful iconic period:  Gucci--Tom Ford era; Fendi's baguette bags, VOGUE's INDEX debuted; Mamma M's  Ray of Light album.

OMO: ON MY OWN

POST MARK:

Readers already know that we adore Brad Goreski.  He's a breath of fresh fashion in a landscape of dullards and wannabes.  He's always impeccably dressed and groomed.   Always appropriate. No scrub, no schlub. A handsome guy to bring home to mom.

Since leaving a well known Hollywood stylist, Brad's new career started with a chapter  in styling for Kate Spade's F/W 2011-12 show.

He loves bows, the models had bows.  He likes school girl cardigans, the show had cardigans.  He likes animal print, the show had animal print.  He likes elbow-length gloves (in animal print), the models wore elbow-length gloves in animal print.

His imprint left the models impeccably styled.  Studied. And, gender specific, read:   girly.

HUMOR MILL

There's no shades of gray with AnnER Wintour.  People either love or loathe the impeccably groomed and well-clothed  editrix.

Same goes with the rumors, either very vicious or lathery lovely.

Lisa Hanawalt illustrates a HIGHlarious panel of the most inane rumors about VOGUE's HBIC.

We bet The Ms. does not find this aMUSEing in the least!!

WHAT'S OLD IS NEW

THE SAME OL', SAME OL':

Invitations to Michael Kors F/W 2011-12 arrived with this photo of how Kors looked in 1981.

While women's fashion can change drastically from season to season, menswear has NOT moved one iota in 30 years (proof is in that picture!!).

Is it too much to ask men's designers to jump on the fashion train and come up with some ground breaking designs.  Think outside the box!!!  The same shirt designs, the same jean designs, the same sports coat designs in a different fabric, a slight dart here or there is not new fashion or groundbreaking--IT IS BORING!

It's 2011, aren't we supposed to be in V-like jumpsuits  or 2001: A Space Odyssey white?  Designers:   don't just laugh at those costumes on TV or film, try designing them, try putting a spin on them--just do them.  Give us something new!!

Adding a bigger flap pocket and huge stitching with white thread is NOT groundbreaking, we're talking to you True Religion or slimmer, skinnier suits for the office, we're talking to you Prada.

In the sixties, designers were looking to the future:  female liberation,  with the mini skirt; Courreges drew inspiration from space travel to create clothes with circles, squares,  triangles.

Come on Prada, Gucci and Marc Jacobs find inspiration in the next liberation:  gay rights.  Look up in the sky and design what we would wear to travel to Nebula 555.  Think outside the box!  Break some new ground!!

"The key is to have a good makeup artist to help you when you go from show to show.....Also, no matter how drunk or hung-over you are, wash your face. You only get one shot with your skin,"  Olympian Johnny Weir offers a few of his tips for Fashion Week in NYC.

EN VOGUE

FRONT ROW FIERCE:

VOGUE editors are en masse at the Donna Karan Fall 2011-12 collection.

We have Andre Leon Talley, Alexandra Kotur, Anna Wintour, Grace Coddington, Virginia Smith and Tonne Goodman (not shown).

Kotur showed up late and squeezed herself between Wintour and Talley--leaving Talley to smirk, look away and be very annoyed.

SPRING IN YOUR STEP

Guess who is the muse for Lagerfeld by Karl Lagerfeld S/S 2011 ad campaign?

It's Baptiste Giabiconi, natch.

We're pretty sure Unkle Karl does not let a day go by where this lad is not being photographed, 24/7/365.

Can we get 20 years of documentation and a docufilm, The Kaiser??

Kind of along the lines of Bruce Weber's Chop Suey (the film) and The Chop Suey Club (the book) with his muse Peter Johnson.....

Controversial lenser Terry Richardson shoots the new Sergio K F/W 2011 with David Gandy.

ECO 101

Parsons School of Design held a contest where students would have to produce an eco-friendly, sustainable denim product, using "zero waste."

The school taught "zero waste" in a 15-week course this past fall.

Student Andria Crescioni won the challenge and her product will be mass produced and sold as part of Loomstate's Fall 2011 collection.

Simon Collins, dean of the School of Fashion, [stated]:  “Zero-waste requires a different approach to design because you have one further step. You have to figure out if there’s waste and how to accommodate that waste. As Timo [Rissanen, who taught the course] said very eloquently, you have to unlearn much of what you know about design.” A somewhat surprising statement coming from the dean of a notoriously strict fashion design school.

WHAT'S UP, DONNA?

HARE PIERCING:

PETA has their eyes and sound track on the offices of Donna Karan in New York.

The group has attained a sound permit from the city   and plans to blast DK's offices with the sound of screaming rabbits.  The sound level will be the equivalent to a lawn mower or a dishwasher--- 75 decibels at ten feet away.

The company still uses rabbit fur in their designs and PETA wants that to end.

Outside the DK offices, PETA protesters  plan to hold up signs that read Donna Karan:  Bunny Butcher.

PETA wishes Karan would go fur- free like her peers:  Calvin Klein, Stella McCartney, Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger-- these companies are allegedly 100 percent fur free.

Karan's company sources the rabbit fur from China:

....workers pulling rabbits out of cages by their ears and stunning the screaming animals with electrical devices. Rabbits watch as other animals have their throats cut and their heads and paws cut off with knives before the skin is peeled off their bodies.
