A-MUSE-MENT:

There is chatter Kaiser Karl is going to Buenos Aires to shoot the next Chanel campaign.

Chanel mainstay Claudia Schiffer will in the ads, natch.

And of course Unkle Karl's latest muse Baptiste Giabiconi.

Hopefully, it won't be all work and no play and KL can get some alone time with BG.

MAD ABOUT BROOKS BROTHERS

THE CAMELOT ERA:

T

Images by Patrick McMullan

The two seem a perfect match: Mad Men and Brooks Brothers.

The Madison Avenue local held a fete for its Mad Men-label suit.

Vignettes were created throughout the store with mint-green typewriters and models swigging gin out of tumblers looking bespoke and dashing in a 1960-inspired crisp suit.

Mad Men's costume designer Janie Bryant observing how Brooks Brothers took the Sterling Cooper set and ran with it.

Others on hand to lend to the surrealism of being in the Sterling Cooper interiors: Bryan Batt, Rich Sommer, Vincent Kartheiser and Michael Gladis.

Customers were able to purchase the Mad Men-label suit right on the spot. The suit is a two-button jacket with an attenuated cut-- the style looks straight off the back of President Kennedy circa 1960.

Joan Collins, yes that one of glamour and puss, is coming to all you schlubs and dispensing help and advice to the commoners.

On ITV, we'll get to hear Joan Collins pontificate on this and that-- you know, important matters.

Like making an entrance in a courtroom: don black and white power suit!!

KRAZY TALK FROM UNKLE KARL

UK's The Independent pens this story with Kuotes from Kaiser Karl:

"No one wants to see curvy women," Lagerfeld was quoted as saying on the website of news magazine Focus.

"You've got fat mothers with their bags of chips sitting in front of the television and saying that thin models are ugly," he added.

The world of fashion is about "dreams and illusions", he said, dismissing as "absurd" the debate prompted by Brigitte magazine which said it would no longer feature professional models on its pages.

GRAND SLAM STYLE

RECYCLED FASHION:

In these recessionary times, we think AnnER is taking the lead and leading by example showcasing one outfit for three  fashionable, international cities: London, Milan and Paris.

She is playing it smart by not being a clothes horse---- giving us a change of outfit for every fashion show.  She is exemplifying how several good purchase and a knack for putting together can travel and take you any where.  One outfit packs light which means a lighter suitcase (lighter weight equals less carbon emissions).

Thinking green at the same time!!

AnnER's doing it, why can't we?

FLU FENDING FASHION

$580 can buy you a flu fending suit.

Haruyama Trading Company is marketing a suit that defends against the swine flu.

The suit is coated in titanium dioxide , a chemical found in tooth paste and cosmetics that can break down and kill viruses.

After several trips to the dry cleaner, we're sure that chemical barrier breaks down.

Questions remain-- where is the protective garb for eyes, nose and mouth?

OH NO YEN D'NT

The Japanese eat duck feet not duck lips, dragulous!!

'TOKYO IS LOSING ITS PRESTIGE:'

Versace is closing its stores in Japan. It's not like there are a truckload of them but just 3 total. And the Gianni Versace SpA group scrapped plans for the future store in Ginza.

“'The Versace boutiques in Japan no longer represented the brand image and it was felt to be more advantageous for the company to close them and start with a clean slate,' Milan- based Versace said yesterday in a statement. The fashion company has three stores in Japan, according to the Web site.

Versace, which entered Japan in 1981, is the latest brand to scale back operations in the country, as falling wages and job losses chill consumer confidence. LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton SA said in December that it scrapped plans to open a store in Ginza, one of Tokyo’s busiest shopping districts.

'Tokyo is losing its prestige,' said Naoki Iizuka, a senior economist at Mizuho Securities Co. in Tokyo. Luxury goods makers see less need to sell their products in Tokyo with the increasing importance of Singapore and Hong Kong as financial centers, he said.

AFRO-MATION

AFRO FEROSH:

As soon as Marc Jacobs sent the first models down the runway, Creative Director Grace Coddington "whooped with delight at the first sight," twittered WWD.

What to expect:  anoraks that sparkle, fringed shirt, cowboy boots with feathers showcased kitten heels, corsets in satin, denim hot pants over lace-up leggings, and moccasins with metal "peg" heels.

"It" bag of the season:  LV bags with giant, fluffy fur tails in neon colors hanging from the end.

RIP

Irving Penn, photographer extraordinaire, has died at the age of 92.

He was a long time VOGUE contributor.

Our thoughts and prayers go put to his family and friends.

"Instead of spontaneity, Mr. Penn provided the illusion of a seance, his gaze precisely describing the profile of a Balenciaga coat or of a Moroccan jalaba in a way that could almost mesmerize the viewer. Nothing escaped the edges of his photographs unless he commanded it. Except for a series of close-up portraits that cut his subjects’ heads off at the forehead, and another, stranger suite of overripe nudes, his subjects were usually shown whole, apparently enjoying a splendid isolation from the real world." via nyt.

ANIMAL FARM

Design genius Karl Lagerfeld took to the farm for the Chanel Spring 2010.

Kaiser Karl had a giant barnyard constructed in the Grand Palais-- complete with hay and a mock stage. The barn had the logo branded. We want that barn!!

There was no way you could miss Lagerfeld's male muse Baptsite Giabiconi. We feel bad for Brad Kroenig, we loooooove Brad.

TREND ALERT:

We're gay, we don't follow rules: like this is for girls, this is for boys.  We adopt and make it our own!!!

Softer colors for spring in neutrals:  beige, ivory, caramels, taupes and ecrus -- get your jackets and buttondowns in these colors.  Find a racer leather jacket in a light caramel.  One red item-- red Lacoste or red Converse wear it with said jacket.

The iconic pieces (like the nubby tweed jacket) were mixed with ivory and black; rough textures; transparency and lace.  Like the first image, find your own Chanel tweed jacket (the Hawaii Chanel store sells Mens) and mix it with a black and white print shirt and a tank top underneath that.

You can always take the high heel boot and reinterpret that with a chunky black motorcycle boot.  Find some vintage Girbaud jeans, roll them up, crisp white shirt, black blazer --- viola, you're parroting the second image.

What to look for:  homespun couture skills-- hopsack to basket weave and cane work to aprons; peasant poppy prints-- look for that in a shirt to wear under a jacket.

LITTLE GREY CORVETTE

One of the 80's greatest artist surfaced in Paris at the Chanel runway show: Prince.

The small statured singer showcased  a bespoke Chanel suit.

He. Ho. Let's go crazy.

We love the pointy grey pumps shoes and the crisp  bootcut of the pant's leg!!

AMAZING GRACE

GRACELAND:

Since the release of The September Issue, Grace Coddington has been the break out star, not EIC Anna Wintour.

Although Anna Wintour is the lead of the film, there is always the character that steals the spotlight away from the protagonist ands wins the hearts of the audience-- Ms. Coddington is that underdog.

The Creative Director of VOGUE takes the subway to work at 4 Times Square and while aboard fans immediately surface and offer praise and congratulatory adulation.

Quips Coddington: “It’s uplifting when you’re feeling grumpy in the morning on the subway on the way to work and someone recognises you and talks to you....It’s funny and amusing.”

You've got some #1 fans over here too. You stole our hearts in the 80's. Give a big hug to Pumpkin!!

'AN EMBARRASSMENT'

THIS IS NOT...

Images via decades

THAT!!!!

Never send in a stupid drunk  snatch to do a FAGULOUS COUTURIER's   job.

We knew this was a bad pairing when we first heard about it:  Emanuel Ungaro and Insanity Lezzhan.

The fashion critics are panning the collection and RIGHTFULLY SO!!

Justice is sweet!!

Booth More of the Los Angeles Times:
Nothing in the collection evidenced any real skill or discernible design work. In fact, you could probably find a lot of it already on the shelves at Kitson. I did hear someone remark that they liked the shoes, which had narrow, stair-step heels.

Still, there's really no defending this misguided collection, other than as a desperate bid for attention from a house that hasn't mattered since its founder retired in 2004. I just don't think it's the kind of attention they had in mind.
Hilary Alexander of The Telegraph:
There were some truly hideous fashion faux pas. Silver sequinned "pasties", for example, belong in a lap dancing club unless you subscribe to a Jordan-esque dress code. The dresses were too short. There was not enough jewellery and the cuffed, eastern-style trousers, bra-tops and boleros in jewel-tones hardly paid lip-service to Ungaro's lush exoticism.Suzy Menkes of The New York Times:
Emanuel Ungaro was a couture king of drape and shape. When a swathe of white dress was covered with a white fur stole, there was some attempt to move from teen night out to a couture elegance. Yet will this collection of hearts but with no soul be enough to entice young women who could probably find these looks anywhere?WWD:

Lindsay, it’s time to get serious about reviving the acting career. After just one season, one show, Mounir Moufarrige’s Lindsay-plus-one experiment is off to a troubled start. Lindsay Lohan, the house’s “creative director,” and designer Estrella Archs, (who probably got the job in part for her willingness to sketch in Lohan’s shadow, and probably took it for its high-profile heritage), made their joint debut on Sunday in an effort that was, quite simply, an embarrassment...

As for the clothes, they looked cheesy and dated, as has often been the case chez Ungaro during the post-Emanuel revolving door of designers. Hot pink, orange and flashy, with an overworked heart motif relentless in its execution, the collection displayed none of the promised younger side Lohan was supposed to deliver. Nor in a million years would one guess that the lineup was designed by one young woman and “creative directed” by another. Glitter heart pasties all around, ladies?.

THE SPORTS AUTHORITY

ATHLETIC SUPPORTERS:

Items from David Beckham and James Bond for Adidas, above.

As we posted earlier, David Beckham and James Bond (his real name, owns sneaker shops called Undefeated, including one on LaBrea) have teamed up to produce a line for Adidas.

Bond was asked the future of Original by Original collection:

" We just turned in fall ’10 and we’re starting to talk about spring ’11, so we’ll just keep going until they decide, or David’s like, 'Ah, you know, I’m over it.' But in my mind I’d like to turn it into a brand like Jordan. There are so many different ranges of people, and I think if somebody can only really buy T-shirts, we want them to be able to buy his T-shirts; if you can go and buy the crazy sweat suit, then we want you to buy his sweat suit. There are so many avenues, because the lifestyle is so big, so right now we’re just kind of enjoying it."

HAPPY BIRTHDAY

We wish one of our uberfavorite design sirens Donna Karan a very Happy Birthday.

She founded her seven easy pieces in the 80's and she stole our hearts in 7-easy gasps with her beautiful iconic clothes.

When she started the Mens DKNY division, we were beside ourselves, scooping up velvet blazers and crisp dress shirts and building our own DKNY clothing vocabulary!!

We love you Ms. Karan.  You are in our hearts forever!!

BECKS BONDING

Adidas on Melrose threw a fete for soccer stud David Beckham and designer James Bond .

The two collaborated on a line for the German sportswear company called Originals by Originals or ObyO for short.

The PR words are pretty generic and could sum up any collection out there:  a modern take on classic American sportswear.  The clothes are made of cashmere, leather, and silk.

RALPH ALWAYS COMES IN FIRST

COPY CAT:

SO BADLY WANTS TO BE

Ralph Lauren is the King of American Sportswear.

Starting his vast Polo laden company in 1967 with a collection of  ties.

Ralph Lauren's scion David was the first to bring the company to millennium standards: with the website and an iPhone application to peruse the collection and buy items right from the Apple talkie. The website offers TV and online magazine editorials.   The gigantic  polo pony that graces some polo shirts is called  The Big Pony collection, one of David's ideas and  a huge money maker for his father's company.

As always Tommy Hilfiger comes dragging in the race-- late and far behind.

With his collection that reeks of Ralph Lauren imitation.....

NOW-- Hilfiger has teamed up with software company ATG to produce his own iPhone application.

The free application will allow one to -- you guessed it-- peruse the collection.

A shopper can use filters and other gadgetry to find latest style, price, and size and zoom, click, and pan product detail.

And finally put items in a cart and check out.

We guess....better late than never.....
