Fashion Week in NYC kicks off and its a magical time of year!!

And how apropos that it lands on Karl Lagerfeld's birthday. Happy 76 Unkle Karl.

Gilded Age kicked off with a "picnic vignette."






The Target tent is all about Anna Sui and her capsule collection for the mass retailer.






And tonight is Fashion Night Out in NYC and some retailers are participating on the West Coast.

Just a smidge of what is on tap for Thursday night ( courtesy of Shophound):

• SAKS FIFTH AVENUE is looking like the epicenter of the evening, with a huge store to house multiple events including the launch of a dazzling, new fully renovated designer floor on 3 which will bring a parade of designers (Donna, Carolina, Ralph Rucci). Along with that, folks fromMarc Jacobs and DETAILS will be carousing in the Men's Departmentalong with our friend DJ Aaron Elvis featuring T-Shirts, iPhone cases and signed iPod Shuffles for some lucky full price Marc by Marc Jacobscustomers. 10% of all sales proceeds (from September 6th -10th) will be donated to the New York City AIDS Fund in The New York Community Trust.
• JOHN BARTLETT will be greeting customers in person as he celebrates the second anniversary of his West Village boutique along with special guest star, Project Runway's Tim Gunn. 10% of the night's proceeds will be donated to The Trevor Project. 143 Seventh Avenue South at Charles Street.
• PHI will be offering champagne for all and an appearance by creative director Andreas Melbostad. even better, for anyone who spends $2,000 or more, a ticket to the Spring 2010 runway show –always one of our favorites featuring an intimate setting (no cavernous tents here), the very best models on the runway and the very best editors and buyers in the audience. • ADAM LIPPES will be offering personalized versions of his famous T-Shirts along with custom made Havaianas flip flops as well as cocktails and music by DJ Phresh until a decadent 1 AM. All proceeds from Havaianas sales will be donated to the 9/11 charity fund. 678 Hudson Street at 13th Street.
• BILLY REID will be serving Pabst Blue Ribbon and Woodford Reserveas customers are treated to a live performance of bluesy Southern rock by the Greg Spradlin Outfit. 54 Bond Street between Lafayette Street and Bowery.
• KIKI DE MONTPARNASSE will be presenting "an intriguing and elegant evening celebrating intimacy and inspiring romance. Our specialists will be holding salons on our instruments of pleasure and the art of seducing your lover. Guests will enjoy exploring their fantasies in our erotic portrait booth and creating a picture to keep or take home to their lover. Champagne and indulgent aphrodisiacs will be served throughout the evening." Clearly, drinking will be mandatory. 79 Greene Street between Spring and Broome Streets.
• BIRD's Williamsburg location will be featuring the lovely designers ofVena Cava as well as lots of food and drinks from neighborhood restaurants. 203 Grand Street between Bedford and Driggs Avenues, Brooklyn.
• OPENING CEREMONY will be holding a block party featuring special appearances by designers including Jack McCollough & Lazaro Hernandez of Proenza Schouler, Kate & Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte, Delfina Delettrez Fendi, Alexander Wang and Scott Sternberg of Boy/Band of Outsiders selling special goods made for the occasion out of the backs of their own customized cars. 35 Howard Street at Crosby Street.
• MODEL ALERTS: We have heard that top models will be scattered throughout the city Thursday night, but we know that COCO ROCHAwill be giving an Irish Dancing performance at 9 PM at DKNY (655 Madison Avenue at 60th Street) while DARIA WERBOWY will be on hand to help you choose the perfect shades at Times Square's SUNGLASS HUT(1585 Broadway between 47th & 48th Streets). Really! Sunglass Hut!
• UPDATE: Could we have forgotten UNIQLO? Not that they need any help generating customer traffic these days, but this Thursday, the Japanese mega-chain's SoHo flagship will be launching a shop-in-shop called the “Art Convenience Store,” devoted to the art and culture of Tokyo featuring apparel, stationery, toys, and character goods in collaboration with Hiroshi Fujiwara, Chitose Abe, Masaaki Honma, and Yasuko Furuta. Thursday's launch will feature the DJ team Activaire and free bottles of ITO EN tea. The shop-in-shop will be at UNIQLO until September 1. 546 Broadway between Prince & Spring Streets

• ESKANDAR will be plying you with food and drink and then raffling off one of his sumptuous cashmere sweaters, scarves, Dyptique candles and bath and beauty products for anyone who spends over $250 (which is basically any purchase at all). 33 East Tenth Street between Broadway and University Place.
• JEFFREY will be exhibiting and auctioning off a special collection of designer dolls by Jason Wu as well as a special appearance from HUGH JACKMAN! 449 West 14th Street between 9th & 10th Avenues.
• GIORGIO ARMANI will host Nora Ephron & Rosie O'Donnellreading from the book from "Love, Loss, and What I Wore". 760 Madison Avenue at 66th Street.
• MATTHEW WILLIAMSON will be offering one lucky winner an exclusive custom designed dress, along with Champagne and snacks for all. 415 West Fourteenth Street between 9th and 10th Avenues.
• PATRICIA FIELD will have a midnight raffle, custom airbrush demonstrations, trunk shows from A-Morir by Kerin.Rose, and Pavon by Luz & Victoria. Tom Tom Fashions will be customizing Fashion’s Night Out T-shirts and, of course Ms. Field herself will be on hand leading the party. 302 Bowery between Houston and Bleecker Streets.
• RAG & BONE's Christopher Street store will be transformed into an Irish Pub. That means free beer, an Irish band and sawdust on the floor. That's free beer, folks. 100 Christopher Street at Bleecker Street.
